Here is the easy part: now that you know where the replaceable clamps are and where the hooks are, you simply take any thin, plastic card and insert it between the metal and the key cap from the top side of the key and gently lift. If looking at your keyboard, this means that the two clamps are at the top and the hooks (THAT WILL BREAK IF YOU DO THIS INCORRECTLY) are at the bottom. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AS THIS SHOWS WHERE THE HOOKS ARE. Once again: this is being viewed from the left side. (please excuse my awful drawing skills) It must be understood that this is being viewed from the left side. This image shows the hooking mechanism of the plastic keys. Apple has not made a knowledge base article based on the new Butterfly design, so this will hopefully serve someone until that happens.įirst, we must understand how the keys hook into the butterfly keyboard.

It seems like such a simple thing to do, but apparently no one knows how to do this. After class today, I'll be recording a video guide on this subject. I am making this guide because I followed some YouTube videos that ended up causing more of a problem. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. This fundamental difference in audience is why we support two communities, r/Apple and r/AppleHelp. Apple SubredditsĬontent which benefits the community (news, rumors, and discussions) is valued over content which benefits only the individual (technical questions, help buying/selling, rants, etc.).
